Endorser profile: Julia Stoesz

Julia Stoesz entered my life approximately three decades ago. She was part of a group of friends in the young adults circle at my church. She moved away years ago, and we lost contact. However, through the wonder of Facebook, we connected in more recent years. For the most part, this just meant hitting the like button once in a while on each other's posts.

I talk about Julia in the March 2024 section of the Two years of writing post. She provided feedback on a very old version of my manuscript ahead of submitting it to the Braun Book Awards. I valued her input as a therapist, MRI Technologist, and friend. She kindly extended her love in the form of an endorsement.

She lives and works as a counsellor in Southern Manitoba. Julia is an adventurous woman who has gone to Spain twice to walk the famous Camino de Santiago trail. She loves to travel and enjoys creative expression through watercolour and mixed media.

The Endorsement

Robyn's book is an eloquent and humorous look at a hard and complex journey. She offers beautiful insight into the ways that invisible illness impacts an individual and makes them feel so challenged in our modern society. Luckily, Robyn also offers excellent opportunities to ponder how we can support people better and walk alongside them in ways that are truly useful and validating. Endorser profile: Dr. Georges Saab

The first endorsement I received arrived with impeccable timing. But let me give some backstory. I met Dr. Saab in October 2023. I'd been waiting for over two years to be assigned to a new neurologist after Dr. Marriott left Manitoba to pursue other opportunities. Kevin was with me for my first appointment with Dr. Saab, and we were both impressed by his professionalism, knowledge, and personable nature. I was confident I was in good hands. I was so thankful and encouraged to have him on my healthcare team that I thought it was only fitting to send him a thank-you card. Over the last number of years, I've been drawing cartoon animals on cards accompanied by a corny pun related to the animal. As we talked, we learned that Dr. Saab is from Lebanon. We were quite ignorant about Lebanon, so we asked questions about his country. Through our conversation, we learned that Lebanon is the only country in the region without a desert. I concluded there probably aren't man...

"Let's do this thing!!!!"

On June 13th, I emailed the lovely Crystal from Word Alive Press with the subject, Let's do this thing!!!! She and I had been emailing a fair bit while I asked numerous questions about the publishing process. She graciously provided answers to all my queries with reassurance that I really wasn't being a bother or too much. Once I was signed on, suddenly I had many tasks. They gave me a "WAP Blueprint." There were numerous questions to answers, decisions to make, and tasks to complete. It was exciting to feel that the process was moving along, but with deadlines for the different aspects of the blueprint, I found myself dedicating much time to what was required. The following is a breakdown of what I needed to do to satisfy the blueprint's requests: Indicate my request for the print date. I loved this question because it pointed to a finished product! I indicated that I'd like to see the books printed and ready for sale by Christmas of this year....

Endorser Profile: Shellie Power

Shellie Power is the Executive Director of Hope Centre Ministries (HCM) in Winnipeg. HCM is the most wonderful organization, and a lot of that has to do with its big enchilada, Shellie. Shellie has the biggest heart, and it's fitting that the annual fundraiser is called Hearts for Hope with their adorable mascot Oliver Hart, who encourages everyone to give with all of your heart Oliver Hart. A great introduction to what HCM is all about can be found on the front page of the HCM website : Spiritual care and belonging for people with disabilities. We all have gifts; they differ. I love that. Under Shellie's leading, the staff and volunteers find creative ways to foster the development of the unique gifts of the beautiful people they serve and equip them to participate in community in meaningful and legitimate ways. And they came up with a fun way for me to serve with my own gifts. I make birthday cards for HCM to give to their members, and I usually include a cartoon a...
